If you intend to submit images to the Travel (Photo Travel) section sponsored by FIAP, PSA, or IAAP, you must STRICTLY adhere to the following rules:
- THE CORE RULE: SAY NO TO STAGING
You are forbidden from submitting any image that shows evidence of:
- Arranged Events/Activities (Staged): Events or activities set up exclusively for the purpose of photography.
- Directed or Paid Subjects: Subjects who were directed or hired (models) to create the moment.
- ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES (MUST AVOID)
Commonly staged images, both internationally and locally (e.g., in Vietnam), will be immediately disqualified:
- Hiring young women to pose dramatically on sand dunes.
- Staging scenes of fishermen throwing nets or people displaying water lilies in a set-up scenario.
- Any similar scenes that do not reflect a spontaneous, natural moment of life.
- THE CULTURAL ESSENCE OF TRAVEL PHOTO
Travel photography focusing primarily on people and their activities must truthfully illustrate the characteristic culture of a country, region, or continent. Spontaneity and naturalness are the keys.
CONSEQUENCES AND ETHICAL LIABILITY
If a judge determines your image to be staged within the Travel section, the image will be mercilessly marked down or outright disqualified.
SERIOUS WARNING: Should a staged image win an award and a complaint is filed with the sponsoring organizations (FIAP/PSA…), the Judges and the Salon Director will face serious trouble. This is because every judge commits to studying and adhering to the latest judging materials and rules.
In summary: In the Travel section, AUTHENTICITY and SPONTANEITY are not just criteria; they are the UNWRITTEN LAW that must be followed.
